After several weeks of cardiovascular exercise, you’ve started to slim down. But in the grand plan of getting healthy and looking better naked, you’ve found yourself with some sagging skin, maybe under the arms or around the belly. There are several ways to deal with it. Please note, these tips will not work if you have lost more than 60 pounds in a short time.
The 5 ways to tighten your skin
First, if you don’t already do it, add some weight and resistance training to your workout regimen. The big part of having loose skin is that you used to be a bigger person. Simply losing weight with diet and cardio doesn’t replace any of your mass, and results in muscle loss that adds to the problem. Basic resistance training will help, although building yourself up with free weights will do the job better and more quickly.
The next thing to do is add some gelatin to your diet and increase your vitamin intake. Gelatin is one of those wonderful supplemental food items that lacks in most modern diets. Thankfully, most modern supplements contain it. If your diet is otherwise balanced and you don’t need any other supplements, you can buy fairy inexpensive gelatin supplements in any health food store. It may take some time, but your skin will get healthier. The big vitamin to add to your diet is C, which you need between two and three grams of per day for the best results, but vitamins A, B, D and K will all help, too.
Along with diet is maintaining proper levels of hydration. Drinking enough water will help your skin’s elasticity. The general recommendation is two liters per day. A good rule of thumb is to add that two liters to whatever water your body goes through when you’re working out. If you drink a liter to balance how much you sweat at the gym, then your total for the day should be three liters.
The third thing to do is to use moisturizer. It doesn’t need to be expensive, but it helps smooth out your skin and help with collagen formation, which will tighten your skin up much more easily and quickly. Using a loofa to help exfoliate your skin will increase blood-flow and keep the skin healthy. Do not just rub the moisturizer into the area you are worried about, because your skin is one huge organ.
Massaging helps, too. This is easily combined with using the moisturizers mentioned above for covering the basics. Visiting a message therapist once a week will do wonders on several fronts, not the least of which is that you’ll feel better and far more relaxed once the massage is done.
All of the above are helpful for multiple reasons, and not just for tightening your skin up. But do remember to be patient. Like any other endeavor, the best results take time.
