Running is one of the best ways to stay in shape. It helps you achieve incredible endurance as well as builds muscle and increases repertory capacity. One thing that is typically overlooked by runners though, is the safety measures that should be taken when hitting the open road. While accidents and other incidents are not common, it is important to take certain measures to help eliminate any possibility of risk. running tips

There are several websites and pieces of literature that are dedicated to showing runners proper safety running tips. This article will give you a breakdown of the most common, and explain the significance and importance behind these running tips.

  1. Always run on the side of the road that opposes traffic. This helps give you a straight-line view of traffic coming at you, which can help you react more quickly in a situation where you would need to move off the road.
  2. Don’t wear headphones. This is the most ignored, and for arguably good reason. Let’s face it. No one likes to be jam free especially on a long run. However, they can be a huge distraction and keep you from being aware of your surroundings. By not wearing headphones your ears are able to help you avoid dangers your eyes might miss.
  3. Always carry some form of identification on you when you run and make sure to include medical information. This is because on the off chance that you are injured or pass out a passerby can know who you are to contact loved ones, Plus, doctors are able to know about any medical issues you may have.   4. Always carry a cellphone, or if you live in a town with a payphone, have change for a phone call. This is for in case of emergency and you need to call help immediately.

  6. Wear reflective clothing if you run after dark. This will help cars and other people see you if you are running on the road. Running tips number 7, run with a partner. While this isn’t always doable, it is a nice way to have motivation and have a safety buddy all at the same time.
  7. Tell someone where you are going. That way if something happens and you can’t get help you’ll have someone on the other end ready to come looking for you.
  8. Be aware of your surroundings. This includes environment and people. Trust your intuition and don’t approach strangers. If they seem injured or in trouble call 911 and wait for them to get to the scene. Finally, tip 10, follow the rules of the road. This will ensure your safety and the safety of others as you enjoy your daily run.

 

If you follow these simple running tips, you can reduce the chance of an accident. While incidents may still occur, by preparing in advanced you will be ready for any emergency that may come along.
